LOCAL CRYOTHERAPY

What is Local Cryotherapy?

Local Cryotherapy treatments are used to reduce pain, inflammation, and swelling in specific areas of the body. Unlike Whole Body Cryotherapy, which triggers an internal systemic anti-inflammatory response in the body, Local Cryotherapy is like “icing”, but is much more efficient and faster in its healing and Anti-inflammatory process.

Once the area of your body is selected for its treatment, we will conduct the Local Cryotherapy session. Depending on the area of the body, session times can take between 5 and 30 minutes with benefits exceeding that of hours of icing.

Local Cryotherapy targets specific areas of the body that are inflamed with severe chronic pain. It is also an excellent tool for treating migraines, headaches, sprains, recent acute injuries and even post-surgery swelling, pain and scarring.

Treatment Can Target the following conditions:

  • Lower back pain

  • Knee pain

  • Neck pain

  • Arthritis

  • Heel pain

  • Shoulder pain

  • Tennis/Golfers elbow

  • Tendinitis

  • Sprains and strains

  • Carpal tunnel syndrome

  • Hip pain

  • Migraines

  • Planter Fasciitis

HOW MANY TREATMENTS DO I NEED FOR INJURY?

While everyone is different, the following can be referenced as general recommendations.

There should be an immediate relief of the area after 1 treatment. A single session is treating the acute symptoms of the affected area. A chronic situation will require additional treatments. The severity and chronicity of the injured area will dictate the number of treatments necessary. Typical protocols depend on how long the pain subsides after the initial treatment to dictate the number of treatments necessary. If the pain only subsides for a few hours, a more extensive protocol will be necessary because of the severity and chronicity of the injury. If the pain subsides for several days, only 1-2 additional follow up treatments may be necessary.

WHAT IS A LOCAL CRYO FACIAL?

Local Cryo Facial is a cryogenic treatment that is performed using vaporized liquid nitrogen, that is applied across the forehead,  nose, cheeks and chin. Unlike whole body cryotherapy that is used for pain relief, reduction of inflammation, lowering cortisol levels etc, the Local Cryo Facial targets helping the face look younger.

This is achieved by helping the skin to feel tighter, and by stimulating collagen production, filling in fine lines/wrinkles, and decreasing pores.

BENEFITS OF A LOCAL CRYO FACIAL

Some of the many benefits of receiving a Local Cryo Facial treatment is that it stimulates collagen production through the increase in microcirculation. This then helps to detox and rejuvenate the skin.

Furthermore, this treatment can act as an anti-aging process and restores firmness to the skin. Clients report that their skin feels firmer, rejuvenated and has an improvement in skin texture and tone.

Due to its anti-inflammatory properties, a Local Cryo Facial treatment can also assist in helping clients who are suffering from more severe skin conditions like eczema, psoriasis and dermatitis.

WHAT IS SPOT LOCAL CRYOTHERAPY TONING/FAT FREEZING?

Spot Local Cryotherapy Toning/Fat Freezing is used to freeze and kill fat cells which then becomes a waste product processed by the lymphatic system and eliminated from the body permanently and will not be regenerated by the body.

This process is used in stubborn areas like the stomach and love handles and is done over consecutive weeks of treatments that utilise the application of cold temperatures to tighten, smooth, and shape areas lacking elasticity by increasing the microcirculation oxygenated blood flow to the treatment area. This in turn helps to increase collagen and elastin production, both of which are key proteins in the skin.

The treatment is very consistent from start to finish and many clients report it feels like an ice cube moving across the treatment area.

Spot Local Cryotherapy Toning/Fat Freezing provides up to a 26% permanent reduction of fat cells in the treated area.  Although results differ between each client, it is suggested to attend at least 2 sessions a week for 5 weeks to get the best results out of this treatment.

Clients must remember, lifestyle and other factors may also play a role in fat reduction and toning as this treatment is not a weight-loss treatment or a miracle cure for an unhealthy lifestyle.  Clients must also remember that a good diet and exercise routine will help get the most out of this treatment.

Research Articles

A 2015  review in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery analyzed 19 previous studies of cryolipolysis.

Research generally points towards CoolSculpting being a relatively safe and effective treatment for removing some areas of fat.

2020 study found that cryolipolysis that uses new and better-fitting applicators are safe and effective in quickly reducing excess fat in various body areas.

However, a 2020 review notes that people with cold-induced conditions such as Raynaud’s disease and skin disorders should not undergo the procedure.

2015 study  found that cryolipolysis resulted in more fat reduction than ultrasound.

Clients attending to any of the above treatments must remember that the above is just a guide and every individual is unique, hence results will vary from person to person.
